SeaDream II Captain Michael Macleod

Michael Macleod

Michael hails from a long line of seafarers from the Outer Hebrides in Scotland with its long tradition of maritime industry and culture, being on the very edge of Europe in the North Atlantic Sea. Michael began his maritime career working on oil tankers and LNG carriers, where he worked initially as both a deck officer and a marine engineer, which is exceedingly rare.

After working for a brief time on container vessels, he found his true calling on boutique-sized cruise vessels and yachts. Michael has worked for more than 10 years with SeaDream Yacht Club, initially serving as chief officer and now as Captain.

Michael has lived in various parts of the world since he left home at the age of 16 to go to sea. At one time he lived in Trinidad & Tobago for eight years, where for some time he lectured at the national university on maritime subjects as well as overseeing the ship maneuvering simulator. During his time there he met his wife, Chinara, and his twins were born. Michael moved back to his small Scottish island of his youth (population 1,000) in 2016 so his sons could be educated in his old school, learn his native language of Gaelic, and be taught how to fish.

Michael loves to hike, bike, and run. As such, he especially enjoys SeaDream’s active events with SeaDream guests and fellow crew members. Football is another great love of his, and although he does not play anymore, he supports his favorite team and coaches his sons, who also love the game.

If you have time to join one of Captain Macleod’s hikes and have a chat about maritime law, he welcomes you! He is a qualified Master of Laws on the subject and likes nothing more than a good legal debate.

I believe if someone has ever tried travelling with SeaDream at least once he will want to do it gain. John S.Texas
Fabulous yacht, magnificent food, great people, superb service, I can think of a few more adjectives, but to summarize – save and go on it – probably the best vacation I ever went on. Ian C.California
I hate Commercial Cruises. So I reluctantly signed up for a SeaDream, and after a week on the boat, I could not think of one thing that was not done to perfection. The food was great, the staff was spectacular, and having only 50 couples made this a private yacht cruise. I have signed up for my second cruise, and probably will only Yacht with SeaDream in my future. Pat M.Florida
