Port Name Description
Venice has been known as the "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Water", "City of Masks", "City of Bridges", "The Floating City", and "City of Canals". Luigi Barzini, writing in The New York Times, described it as "undoubtedly the most beautiful city built by man". Venice has also been described by the Times Online as being one of Europe's most romantic cities. Founded in the 5th century, the city stretches across 118 small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic. In 1987 Venice and its Lagoon was inscribed as an UNESCO Heritage site. SeaDream typically docks at the San Basilio pier after navigating by the famous St. Mark’s Square down the grand canal. With its yacht stature, SeaDream vessels are amongst the very few commercial vessels that can navigate this famous waterway. SeaDream does offer Land Adventures when overnighting. You can also contact our destination specialists should you need a private arrangement, transfer or hotel recommendation.
Rovinj is a popular tourist resort in Croatia situated on the north Adriatic Sea. It is situated on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula and remains as one of the last true fishing ports. SeaDream has arranged some unique land adventure options including; Porec, a Touch of History, Culture & The Family Tradition of Wine Making, and the very popular Searching For Truffles in the Countryside. SeaDream is scheduled to anchor to offer water sports activities from the marina (Permission and conditions pending).
Korčula may be the actual birth place of Marco Polo! This is an island in the Adriatic Sea, in Southern Dalmatia and is considered by our guests as one of their favorites. One activity offered sells out every time so book early the Buggy Safari. As SeaDream typically anchors off Korcula expect the water toys to be used from the marina platform. As the island is relatively flat, this is a great biking destination as well.
Kotor is a coastal town in Montenegro. The old Mediterranean port of Kotor is surrounded by an impressive city wall built by the Republic of Venice and the Venetian influence remains dominant among the architectural influences. In 1979 the Bay of Kotor, City of Kotor and the surrounding territory have been listed in the UNESCO Heritage as a Cultural Site. SeaDream usually navigates close by the small islands of St. George and Our Lady of the Reef. The Bay of Kotor stretches 28 km and is one of the most indented parts of the Adriatic Sea. It is sometimes called the southern-most fjord in Europe (though it is actually a submerged river canyon called a ria). SeaDream typically docks steps away from the town. SeaDream has arranged a few different Yachting Land Adventures. One of them is a walking discovery and the other will show you the heritage and countryside of Montenegro. For the active guests, there’s incredible biking along the coast as well as a hike up to the fortress. On occasion, SeaDream may dock in the bay and tender directly to the town. We regret that watersports are not allowed in this protected area.
Dubrovnik (Pearl of the Adriatic) is one of the most prominent destinations in the Adriatic Sea. It lies in the region of Dalmatia and was awarded World Unesco Heritage status in 1979. The population is approximately 43,000 and is considered to be among the 10 best medieval walled cities in the world. SeaDream anchors off the walled city as a port of call and tenders directly to the town gate. If you check the land adventures tab you will see that there are many different options to consider in this incredible town. Dubrovnik is also an embarkation point on select voyages. On these occasions the yacht is docked at the cruise terminal.
Hvar is a Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea. The island of Hvar is somewhat unusual as it is blessed with a large fertile coastal plain, and fresh water springs. Its hillsides are covered in pine forests, with vineyards, olive groves, fruit orchards and lavender fields in the agricultural areas. The climate is characterized by mild winters, and warm summers with many hours of sunshine. Guests have an option to kayak down the coastline on one of our land adventures or take an independent hike up to the fortress to have some incredible views of the picturesque harbor. You also have an option to bike across the island to Starigrad and meet up with the other guests on the land adventure called “The best of Both Worlds”.
Split is one of the oldest cities in the area and the second largest city behind Dubrovnik in Croatia. The Diocletian’s Palace is not only listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site but is also considered to be one of the world’s most impressive Roman monuments. This city is believed to be over 1,700 years old, while archaeological research relates the settling to the ancient Greek colony of Aspalathos (6th century BC) establishes the city as being several hundred years older. SeaDream offers three unique land adventure opportunities; Rafting on the Cetina River, the Split Archipelago by speedboat and naturally the Historic Split overview that included the Diocletian Palace as well as the Mestrovic Gallery.

"Those who seek paradise on earth", George Bernard Shaw once wrote, "should come to Dubrovnik". Today, he might add that Dubrovnik is the place for all those who wish to renew themselves and their faith in human nature. This guided walk through the walled town is an excellent opportunity to not only get to know your way around for later independent explorations but your knowledge and experienced guide will provide you with a historic insight and context to let you appreciate this beautiful town to its fullest. As you arrive at the walled city of Dubrovnik via SeaDream tender and enter its fortress walls through the Harbor Gate, gaze up at the ever-watchful St. Blaise, the patron saint of the city. Once inside, you are sure to notice immediately the absence of signage and neon, its stone-paved Stradun Avenue lined with graceful stone palazzos, shops, sidewalk cafes and government buildings all looking as they did hundreds of years ago. Along the way you will visit The Cathedral built on the remains of another one built in the 12th century that was destroyed in 1667 by an disastrous earthquake. Today its treasure contains one of the finest collections of gold and silver in Europe. The Dominican Monastery & Church with its finest collection of Renaissance paintings in Dubrovnik. Among many local and Italian masters the highlight is a painting by Tizian. Other fine buildings will be viewed from the outside: the Sponza Palace notable for its column courtyard with elaborate stone carvings, The Church of Saint Blaise, Onofriou`s Fountain, and more... At the end of your walking discovery, your guide will escort you to a local oyster & sushi bar located close to the Old Town port where you will be able to taste delicious oysters from the Adriatic sea and have a glass of wine before going back to your SeaDream yacht.

Have we convinced you yet to join up with your friends and fellow SeaDreamers? Looking for more history? Croatia is a unique and interesting country situated on the Adriatic Sea, which has been described as "a deep gulf in the Mediterranean cut into the Continent of Europe". Because of its prime location, it was the cradle of ancient civilizations and the most economical trade route between Europe and the East. The east coast of the Adriatic was inhabited as early as the beginning of the early Stone Age. The ancient Greeks from the 6th Century B.C. left their mark to be followed by the Romans, followed by the Slavs in a time marked by constant struggles for supremacy as well as defense against diverse enemies. Napoleon ruled for a short time in the 18th century followed by the Austrian Monarchy. During the next hundred years Italy and Austria fought each other for control when finally at the Battle of Vis in 1860, Austria won. This commenced the Austro-Hungarian reign during which time ports were built and trade and shipbuilding flourished. This area also played an important part during both World Wars. Let us know what your guide tells you!

Istria Truffle Story

An exclusive SeaDream experience awaits a small group of our guests today. Few areas of the world afford a real search for the "culinary gold" known as truffles, and most truffle farmers are extremely cautious of "trespassers" to protect their valuable crop. The best period to search for the truffles (white truffles) is between October to December, period of year between January to September is good for searching (black truffles) which is little bit lower quality than white truffles. You and your fellow luck SeaDreamers will be leaving Rovinj by bus toward the Istria Peninsula Hinterland to the village of Paladini where you will meet with the Karlic Family (A grandfather, mother, grandchildren and dogs) at their Farm. The truffle business of the Karlić family from Paladini near Buzet was established last century by Mr Ivan Rašpolić, in 1966 to be exact. Back then Motovun forest was quite bigger than today. Both white and black truffles found in that area were considered to be among the best quality truffles in Istria. However, one of the richest truffle fields now lies at the bottom of the Butoniga lake! At the Farm, your host - Karlic Family - will give an introduction to the truffles and the history of truffles in Istra and their family. You will taste delicious products made of truffles all prepared by the family, including Istrian cheese with truffles, sausages with truffles, truffle patte, honey with truffles, olive oil with truffles. The highlight of tasting is a live interactive presentation of making famous Istrian “fritaja” scrambled eggs with truffles, when you will have the opportunity to join in cooking the fritaja. After tasting your hosts will take you to a truffle hunt in their own woods where they grow and harvest black truffle. All the truffles are actually invisible. However their strong smell and of course trained dogs recognize them very well.

After your “truffle” experience your land adventure will be going to a medieval town of Motovun. This captivating hilltop town is one of the characteristic symbols of the Istrian interior. The Romanesque-Gothic bell tower with a crenulated crown from the 13th century, standing next to the Parish Church of St. Stephen from the 17th century, dominates the town's historic core. In the central square is the Romanesque Municipal Palace, the largest secular building in Istria of that period surrounded by many other historic buildings. You will enjoy in walk of the town and some free time for exploring this beautiful town before continue your trip back to Rovinj.

Notes While ever effort is made by the guides to locate truffles (they are invisible!), SeaDream cannot guarantee that they will be found! In an effort to make this Yachting Land Adventure a genuine truffle hunt, we have advised the guides not to 'plant' truffles in the hope that you will enjoy the authenticity of the experience and thrill of the hunt. The period from January through September is considered a good period to search for the black variety while October through December is a better period for white truffles. Please wear flat comfortable walking shoes and remember that you will be walking through forest and other natural surroundings where the path can be muddy. And, for those not in the know, forests all over the world harbor insects, including mosquitoes; we recommend that you bring, and use, insect repellant (if you did not bring your own, it is available for sale in the gift shop onboard). Should it be a hot & sunny day during your visit, please bring protection from the sun and extra water, which is available, complimentary, at the gangway. A minimum participation is required to operate all Yachting Land Adventures and participation on this adventure is limited to 24 guests divided into two smaller groups, each with their own local truffle guide. Sea Safari Adventure

This adventure will include scenic cruise along Split Riviera toward Town of Trogir, situated in a small island squeezed in between the mainland and the larger island of Ciovo. The tiny island is connected to the mainland with a bridge. You will see the main attraction in Trogir - the Cathedral of St. Lawrence. This 13th century building is probably the finest example of sacral architecture in Croatia. The unusual construction with three naves and three semicircular apses dominates the whole town. Other fine buildings that will be viewed are the Town Loggia, the Town Hall, the Cipiko Palace etc.

Depart Trogir with an inflatable boat toward Duga Uvala Beach at Ciovo Island and only after 10 minutes cruise you will find yourself at the beautiful secluded bay with a pebble beach and nice beach bar. Romantic Gondola Evening Serenade

Since Venice began there have always been gondoliers. By the 11th century most were in private service with patrician families. There were about 10,000 gondoliers in Venice in the 16th century, and today there are fewer than 400. Great skill is required to steer a boat through the narrow canals of Venice. Each gondola is 36 feet long, 4 feet wide and weighs 1,100 pounds. A gondolier serves a 10-year apprenticeship under a padrone before getting his own permit. A licensee must be native-born, and, since new licenses are not issued, must wait until a colleague gives up a license before getting his own. Their union offers free courses in foreign languages, art history and the history of Venice, but the gondoliers are not given singing lessons - every Italian seems to have a natural talent for song. Join us for a romantic tour through the canals of Venice. Riding four per gondola, you will traverse the smaller, less trafficked canals, enjoying the soft lights and balconied waterfront homes, and be serenaded as you glide along.
