Ports

  • Civitavecchia (Rome)

One of the largest and busiest ports in the Mediterranean, Civitavecchia is the gateway to Rome. Rome's incredible history spans over 2,500 years. Rome has been awarded on of the most-visited cities in the world. Its historic center is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Monuments and museums such as the Vatican Museums and the Colosseum are amongst the world's 50 most visited destinations. With its unique size SeaDream yachts are generally the first vessel in line at Civitavecchia. On some days, nine ships of various sizes can be seen in this busy port of call. It has come to our attention that some local taxi drivers at the airport may tell you that you can embark earlier than the scheduled 2:00 PM. Please note that this information is false and we kindly ask you to make your arrangements accordingly in order to avoid arriving at the pier prior to 2:00 PM. We thank you for your understanding. Some limo and transfer companies found on the web may not have the proper permits to enter the inner port area. Please double check with your service provider to see if they can actually take you all the way to the yacht. In some cases you may be dropped off at the port entrance and would need to take a shuttle bus with your luggage. • Capri

Capri may very well be the most popular island on the planet? It is a beautiful Italian island in the Tyrrhenian Sea just off the Sorrentine Peninsula, on the south side of the Bay of Naples. Capri town is the island's main population center. The island has two harbors, Marina Piccola and Marina Grande (the main port of the island). The separate village of Anacapri is located high on the hills to the west. From there visitors can continue up to the highest point Mt. Solero. Besides some simply amazing shopping boutiques, the island has so much to offer including the ever popular Grotta Azzura, Villa Jovis, Giardini di Augusto, Certosa di San Giacomo, Villa San Michele di Axel Munthe and the uniquely shaped Faraglioni rocks. SeaDream has put together most of the sights into one adventure called “Discovering the Island of Love” Kindly check the Land Adventures tab for more information. There’s also some great hikes available on the island, check with the activities team on board for more information.

  • Stromboli, Sicily - scenic navigation

On certain routes, SeaDream has planned to stop late evening so guests can view and hear the power and beauty of this active volcano. Stromboli is one of 8 small islands in the Aeolian group in Tyrrhenian Sea. It’s located just off the north coast of Sicily, containing one of the three active volcanoes in Italy. It has been almost constantly erupting in some manor for the past 200 years. Some refer to this island as the "Lighthouse of the Mediterranean".

  • Lipari, Sicily

Lipar, Sicily is the largest of the Aeolian group of seven islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the northern coast of Sicily. Everyone should check out the fortified castello as well as the Aeolian Archaeological Museum. The island was for centuries the world centre for pumice production, and although the mining has left scars on the hillsides, it has also deposited the finest white pumice dust on the sea bed. The water off Spiaggia Bianca (White Beach) is as clear and as turquoise as in the Bahamas and Caribbean. There’s also black sand beaches on the island as well. SeaDream has arranged a Pizza Demonstration as a Land Adventure option as well as the Island Overview. Water sports in the crystal waters is also a great activity option.

  • Taormina (Etna) Sicily

SeaDream yachts anchor in the bay of Giardini Naxos and offer fantastic views of recently awarded UNESCO Natural Site of Mt. Etna (2013) as well as Taormina perched on the cliffside. Shuttle bus service has been arranged to transport guests from Giardini Naxos to the entrance gate of Taormina town. For the SeaDream active guests, office led hikes and bike rides could also transport you to Taormina town or continue up to Castelmola which provides amazing views of the surrounding areas. Perhaps the “must do” adventure here would be to ascent Mt. Etna with your fellow SeaDreamers. Kindly check the Land Adventure tab for the specifics. Other options include an incredible and authentic feast at the Godfather Villa. This “SeaDream Excusive” Land Adventure requires a high minimum to operate but it’s worth every penny! As we are anchored and if conditions allow, we will offer water sports both in the morning and in the afternoon. Multo Bene!

  • Fiskardo, Kefalonia

Fiscardo, is a village located about 54 km north of Argostoli and a district of the city of Erisos. The coast around Fiskardo is mainly rocky with numerous pebble-beached coves. There are numerous viewpoints in the area around the village that offer panoramic views of the Ionian Sea including Daskalio island, Ithaca, northwestern Aetolia-Acarnania and the island of Lefkada.

  • Itea (Delphi)

Itea is a small town situated on the north coast of the Gulf of Corinth, 2 km west of Kirra, 8 km southwest of Delphi. The town has a nice beach along with some shops, cafes and restaurants. It allows the closest access to the incredible sight of Delphi which is within the top three archeological attractions in Greece and in 1987 was inscribed as a UNESCO Heritage Site. It is believed the Zeus wanted to find the center of the Earth so he sent two eagles flying from the eastern and western extremities and where they met was Delphi – becoming the “navel/center of the earth”. SeaDream has arranged the very best guides and vehicles from Athens to further enhance this incredible visit. Your guided visit highlights the ancient Sanctuary of Apollo, where Pythia, the celebrated Oracle dwelt, the Temple of Apollo, the Sacred Way, the amphitheater, the best preserved stadium of Greece, and the Castalia Spring, where in ancient days the pilgrims had to wash before they were allowed to consult the Oracle. In the Delphi Museum, see such treasures as the Omphalos, which marked the center of the world, and the magnificent bronze Charioteer, one of the finest pieces surviving from the 5th century BC. After the museum there will be free time to visit the village of Delphi. SeaDream has the option of docking along the small pier in Itea or anchoring off to provide water sports options. This is dependent on availability as well as the amount of guests visiting the archeological site.

  • Corinth Canal (Transit)

So narrow! So dramatic! You'll understand why SeaDream says "expect the unexpected" as your yacht transits the Corinth Canal. The canal was first completed in 1893, despite previous attempts from ancient times; the first plans being from 602BC. The Roman emporer Nero actually started construction in 67AD, making the first cut himself with a golden pick. The canal we transit is 6.3 kilometres (3.9 mi) in length. Before the canal, ships sailing between the Aegean and the Adriatic had to circumnavigate the Peloponnese Peninsula adding about 185 nautical miles to their voyage.

  • Hydra

There is one main town on Hydra, known simply as "Hydra port". It consists of a crescent-shaped harbor, around which is centered a strand of restaurants, shops, markets, and galleries that cater to tourists and locals (Hydriots). Steep stone streets lead up and outwards from the harbor area. The charm of Hydra town certainly lies in her rich history, beautiful port and waterfront unspoiled by motorized vehicles. The island offers a rugged charm and some spectacular scenes, and makes the perfect place for some self-exploration.

  • Athens (Piraeus)

Athens is the capital as well as the largest city in Greece. It is one of the world's oldest cities, with its recorded history spanning around 3,400 years. The heritage of the classical era is still evident in the city, represented by a number of ancient monuments and works of art, the most famous of all being the Parthenon. Athens is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Acropolis of Athens and the medieval Daphni Monastery. SeaDream will embark guests from the port of Piraeus. Should you desire a private arrangement, transfer, or other local service, please see the Land Adventures tab for our destination specialists information.

Homer mentioned in the Iliad two famous generals who took part in the Trojan War Epistrophos and Schedias from the old towns of Anemoria and Kiparissos. These old towns were situated around where Arachova stands today. Later, in about 334 B.C. Philip the 2nd king of Macedonia destroyed both towns and their populations were dispersed over the hills until over the years one new town, Arachova, was built. Today the 'jewel' of Parnassos Arachova remains vital because it keeps its' traditions alive and the residents remain simple and hospitable. From the first moment you will feel a different wind blowing up here, and understand why the locals work so hard to upkeep the areas' natural beauty! Browse through its narrows streets with the numerous souvenir and local products shops before your return to the yacht.

  • Taormina (Etna) Sicily - Land of the Godfather

    Description

Your adventure begins with a brief drive through the small town of Naxos, founded by Greek colonizers in the 8th Century B.C. and nowadays, it is a lovely summer resort with hotels and tourist facilities. Driving along the coastal road (with lovely villas, flowering gardens and picturesque villages) reach Santa Teresa, the largest coastal town between Messina and Taormina. From there, a picturesque road runs inland to Savoca, a village in a saddle between two hills. Its scenic beauty and historical-artistic heritage makes Savoca one of the most attractive, " although unknown “, places in the environs of Taormina. At the entrance of the village there is the "Bar Vitelli", which has a collection of local artisans' tools and photographs taken when Francis Ford Coppola shot some scenes of "The Godfather ". First visit is made to the Cappuccini Church, whose crypt houses the so-called catacombs with 37 mummified bodies in wooden boxes of friars and noble people who lived there in the 18th and 19th centuries. After a short stop at "Bar Vitelli", start the a slow walking tour along the village's main street which climbs on the hill, with several Churches of 15th and 16th centuries (Chiesa Madre, Santa Lucia, San Michele ), ruins of a Norman castle and a magnificent view of the Sicilian coast-line, Strait of Messina, Italian mainland and villages perched on the surroundings hills.- Afterwards you will proceed to Forza d'Agro' (a 30 minutes drive), a charming little village overlooking the Arab-Norman castle of Capo Sant'Alessio and the coastline towards Messina. In 1990, Al Pacino and Sophia Coppola came here when they shot some scenes of the film "The Godfather III". From the main square, a lane leads up to the close Gothic-Catalan portal in front of the Church of S. Agostino (known as "Triade"), with a pleasant 15th c. facade. • Corinth Canal (Transit) - Transiting The Corinth Canal

    Description

So narrow! So dramatic! You'll understand why SeaDream says "expect the unexpected" as your yacht transits the Corinth Canal. The Corinth Canal was built in the late nineteenth century and created a new sea route by linking the Corinthian and Saronic Gulfs. Until that time, ships sailing between the Aegean and the Adriatic had had to circumnavigate the Peloponnese Peninsula adding about 185 nautical miles to their voyage. However, in antiquity the Greeks had devised a way of solving the problem of communications between the two seas. In the late seventh or early sixth century BC, the tyrants of Corinth constructed a paved road called the Diolkos, which led from Schinous on the Saronic Gulf to Poseidonia on the Gulf of Corinth. The Dioikos was 3- 3.5 m. wide, and it was paved with blocks of limestone set in a deep layer of sand and gravel. Along this ran the olkos vehicle on which ships were borne overland from one side of the Isthmus to the other. Sections of the Diolkos can still be seen today; the deep parallel ruts in the road, 1.50 m. apart, are the marks left by the wheels of the olkos. The ancient Greeks had of course, considered the possibility of digging a canal through the Isthmus. The first to look into the matter was Periander, tyrant of Corinth, who drew up a plan for a canal in 602 BC. Subsequent planners included Demetrius Poliorcetes, Julius Caesar and Caligula. These plans were later adopted by Nero, who in 67 AD announced to the spectators at the Isthmian Games that he was going to join the two seas by digging a canal through the Isthmus; indeed, he went so far as to cut the first turf himself, with a golden pick, and to carry the first basket of earth on his back. But his plans came to nothing, as did those of Herodes Atticus, the Byzantines and the Venetians in later times. The canal we see today was built in 1882 -1893 by Greek and French engineers using the most advanced machinery of the day. General supervision of the enormous undertaking was in the hands of General Stepan Tupp, aide-de-camp to the King of Italy. The project was completed by the Greek Corinth Canal Company. The canal is 6,343 m. in length. It has a width of 24.60 m. at surface level and 21.30 m. at the seabed, and in some places its sides are 79 m. high. The canal is crossed by road and railway bridges, while communications between Central Greece and the Peloponnese are also served by two ferries in the form of submersible bridges, one at either end (Poseidonia and Isthmia).
