||First Arabs, and then Europeans traced the spice routes to Asia. Portuguese merchants seized land from the last Bijapur kings in the early 16th century – Lisbon was mad for silk, ginger, nutmeg and saffron. Goods traveled both directions and Goa received fine European merchandise as ships headed further east to Sri Lanka, Indonesia and China. Goa thrived. Portuguese merchants made the small commune capital of their South Asian holdings after Cochin lost that status. Together with several other enclaves (Diaman and Diu to the north), they carved out an Indian empire. SeaDream Land Adventures take you to visit a spice plantation and villa or join us on an exploration of Colonial Panjim and Old Goa.|
||Kerala's fertile ribbon of land lines India's southwestern shore. Rivers from the Western Ghats empty into broad alluvial plains at the coast, so local fields yield an abundant crop – coconuts, rice, cashews, and mango thrive in the tropical climate. Natural harbors and geography guaranteed Kerala prominence on the routes between Arabia and Southeast Asia. The name Kerala means 'land of the (indigenous) Cheras.' No one is certain about the origins of the name Kochi, but in Malayam, the Dravidian Keralan language, Cochazhi means 'small sea,' and Kaci is 'seaport.' Guests have an option to explore the historic port city on a SeaDream Yachting Land Adventure.|
||Sri Lanka (sree LAHN ka) wears an exotic veil decorated with elephants, spice, and precious gemstones. Some believe Adam's Peak to be the very spot upon which Adam first trod after being cast down from heaven. After all, his footprint – or is it Buddha's footprint? – is embedded in the summit. A modern enigma, Sri Lankan history is so long, it begins in legend. An important center of Theravada Buddhism, the island is home to the remarkable Temple of the Tooth at Kandy. SeaDream offers a full day excursion to the Pinnawela Elephant Reserve, an exploration of Colombo and Galle, as well as a visit to Kandy.|
|Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands
||The eastern half of South Andaman Island is a reservation for the Jarawa Tribe, a group that fiercely resists contact with outsiders to the present day. But foreigners did arrive. The first Western visitor was Marco Polo, who called the islands 'land of the head-hunters,' but what he found was a thick carpet of tropical rainforest that is habitat to a remarkable variety of rare birds and land animals. Named for Lt. Reginald Blair, a British dispatch charged with surveying the land in 1789, Port Blair is the main administrative center.|
|Patong Bay (Phuket)
||Roughly the size of Singapore, Phuket is widely known for its fine resorts, but it also showcases traditional Thai culture and a spectacular natural interior. Sheer limestone crags thrust from scenic Phang Nga Bay off the island's northern tip, creating a peaceful refuge from 'it all.' For another kind of Thai serenity, visit South Phuket's Wat Chalong. Its Grand Pagoda, one of the island's most revered sites, preserves a fragment of Lord Buddha's bone. After touring, curl up on a quiet section of Ao Patong (Patong Beach), on the southwestern shore. Join your fellow SeaDreamer's for a Phang Nga cruise or find your inner James Bond aboard ... an elephant! The yacht has also arranged several other Land Adventure possibilities including an excursion to one of the island's world-class golf resorts.|
|Langkawi Island (Pulau Langkawi)
||Long a secret backpacker's destination, Pulau Langkawi, largest member of the 99-island Langkawi Archipelago is the doorway to Malaysia's most spectacular jungle wilderness. Fairies once gathered in the ponds below Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells) Waterfall, just 45-minutes from the port. According to local lore, the ponds' curative powers spring from this magic. Among the island's other natural wonders in the region, 2,890-ft/880-m Gunung Raya is the tallest natural formation. Another tale recalls that it is the petrified remains of Mat Raya, a fearsome giant who once terrorized the land.|
||Lee Kuan Yew, first and longest reigning Prime Minister of Singapore, stepped down in 1990. Known as 'father of Singapore,' Mr. Lee's guidance unquestionably created an economic marvel and model safe society out of a chaotic post-war, post-colonial state. The rules are tough, but clear. Jaywalkers are fined on the spot. Drop litter – and you pay (smokers beware!). Explore the city-state's impressive modernity and tradition in its architecture. I.M. Pei's striking Gateway and Moshe Safdie's Marin Bay Sands point the way to the future, but don't miss the handsome Old Parliament House.|
||Built across a series of seven islands (Colaba, Mazagaon, Old Woman's Island, Wadala, Mahim, Parel, and Matunga-Sion) that now form the city's main districts, Mumbai is the glamour capital of India. The early residents were Koli fishermen and the community was part of the Ashoka Kingdom. An extended land reclamation program eventually linked the archipelago into a peninsula. The region passed through the hands of several Hindi rulers until 1343, when Gujerat Muslims took possession. They ruled for two centuries until Portuguese forces invaded, but only their Mahim Mosque remains. The SeaDream Land Adventure to Elephanta Island departs from the iconic gateway of India. If you are shopping-deprived, join us on a market excursion to explore Mumbai at its colorful best.|

Popularly known as the Queen of the Arabian Sea, Kochin is a cluster of picturesque islands on the vast expanse of the Lake Vembanad. The lake opens out into the Arabian Sea forming one of the finest natural harbors in the world. It is this natural advantage that has made Kochin a fascinating blend of the cultures and influences of explorers and traders who visited this wealthy land. It is an excellent blend of traditions and modernity and is a perfect reflection of the cosmopolitan society of Kerala. It is indeed one of the most spectacular cities of India, brimming with history, legends and natural beauty. Even a casual stroll through Fort Kochi is enough to make you feel transported to another world and time. We then visit Mattancherry which was the center of spice trade for many centuries and still has the remnants of that glorious past with many of the godowns in dilapidated state . Visit the Dutch Palace which contains some excellent mythological murals and a rare example of traditional Kerala flooring (flooring has been covered by mats for preservation). Asia's best preserved Synagogue is our next call; a beautiful artifice embellished by Ezekiel Rahabi, who built a clock tower and paved the floor with hand-painted blue and white porcelain tiles (no two are alike) brought from Canton, China. Also walk through the Jew Street with the Jewish homes either side " but few remain now after migration to Israel. Majority of the homes are now converted into antique , handicraft and garment/spice shops.

Depart from your SeaDream yacht and transfer to the Aberdeen pier by bus. On arrival at the Rajiv Gandhi water sports complex you will board local boats and leave for Ross Island. This eerie forlorn place was once the administrative headquarters for the British. All that remains are the timeworn remnants of old structures. A swimming pool, tennis court, bakery and cemetery are mute testimony to the lifestyle of the ruling class, in sharp contrast to the jail where Independence fighters were incarcerated. A small museum displays the opulence and decadence of a bygone era exhibiting photographs and other antiques. Spotted deer and peacocks roam about on the island so with a little luck you can spot few in your trip. At the end of your Ross Island adventure, return via local boat to your SeaDream yacht.
Notes Boats are non-air-conditioned, they are open air with a cover on top. Schedule and duration of the land adventure is subject to change according to local circumstances. None of the monuments have wheelchair ramps and most are difficult to access. Rest room facilities may be basic. The land adventure involves heavy walking under the sun. We recommend visitors to use hats, sunscreen, loose cotton attire and comfortable shoes.

Port Blair, the administrative capital and only town of any size on the islands, has the lively air of any Indian Market. Its pleasantly situated on the main harbor and, as it’s a hilly town, there are good views from quite a few vantage points. You will explore the small town of Port Blair and visit the Samudrika Marine Museum with its display of about 350 species of sea-life, rare varieties of coral, the museum reflects the enormous marine life and wealth submerged in the waters of these islands. You will further proceed to the Anthropological Museum to witness the tribal life of these islands with their model villages and the artifacts, this newly renovated informative museum (normally closed on Mondays) showcases the four Negroid tribes of the Andamans: the Jarawas, Sentinelese, Andamanese and the Onges, and two Mongloid tribes of the Nicobars: the Nicobarese and the Shompens. Continue to The Cellular Jail – this three-storied prison, constructed by the British in 1906, is a pilgrim destination for freedom fighters. This colossal edifice has mutely witnessed the most treacherous of inhumane atrocities borne by the convicts who were mostly freedom fighters. Now dedicated to the nation as a National Memorial, it houses a spectacular sound and light show, besides a museum and art gallery. One can see small cellular cells where they could hold 698 solitary prisoners, the gallows, the death house and the different utensils used by the British to torture the inmates. At the end of the land adventure you will drive to Aberdeen Bazaar, which, at one time was a famous trading market.
Notes This excursion would not have been possible without the support of our local operators as most of the town is closed on Mondays – They basically opened for SeaDream Yacht Club and her valued guests. Rest room facilities may be basic. The land adventure involves heavy walking under the sun. We recommend visitors to use hats, sunscreen, loose cotton attire and comfortable shoes.
