Medieval Silves & Carvoeiro
On your SeaDream Land Adventure today you discover the medieval Silves Castle and enjoy a nice Algarvian fishing village. The journey begins with an air-conditioned motor coach ride through this lovely peninsula region en route to the old town of Silves. Captured by the Moors in 713, the town was not finally re-captured by Christian forces until 1242, after changing hands several time. On arrival you will make a short walk up hill to the impressive Moorish castle and the outside facade of the partly gothic Cathedral, originally built by King Alfonso x of Castille. On the way down you will see the 16th century cross of Portugal. Then it's on to a dramatic hilltop village known as Carvoeiro. You wind your way slowly down the cobbled lanes to the village center - filled with colorful fishing boats, sandy coves and local outdoor cafes for some free time to browse before re-boarding the coach and returning to Portimao and SeaDream. You have returned with a great overview of a seldom-explored area of Portugal.
