Countryside and Folklore
This Yachting Land Adventure will give you the opportunity to experience some of the culture and traditions of the Saaremaa Island. Depart Roomassaare port for a drive through the island countryside. Along the way you will visit Kihelkonna Church, one of the oldest on the Island and completed in 1260. The church is home for the oldest preserved organ in Estonia built by Johann Andrea Stein in 1805. You will then continue to visit the Mihkli Farm Museum. This small open-air museum is approximately 300 years old and displays the farmsteads typical of Western Saaremaa. Most of the buildings date to the middle of the 18th century. Almost all of the items on display have been made by the six generations of family who lived here. The farm consists of a family dwelling (the log house with no foundation), a threshing barn/dwelling, a "wheel house" where woodwork was carried out and the farm's wheeled wagons were stored, a smithy, a summer kitchen, two stone storage barns and a smoke sauna. A windmill is located a few hundred meters off in the distance. This unique old-time setting goes hand-in-hand with inextinguishable Saaremaan pride. It's people have their own customs, songs and costumes. You and your fellow guests will enjoy a folkloric show and sample traditional Saaremaa beer, bread and smoked fish.
