Shopping the Nevesky Prospekt
The Nevsky Prospekt is St. Petersburg’s own Champs-Elysees and was laid out in 1710 as one of the first streets in the City. Three miles long, it runs in a straight line from the Square in front of the Winter Palace to the Moscow Train Station. The Prospekt itself and the streets running off it, is the central shopping district of the city. Shopping ranges from the chic stores in the hotels selling top Western brands at top Western prices to impromptu markets selling Russian souvenirs such as the matryoshka dolls, traditional handcrafts, amber jewelry, a Faberge egg or a babushka scarf. There will be a guide on the bus to help you with any questions you might have and to point you in the right direction.
