Soufriere Wonders of Nature
Upon arrival at Soufriere Bay, you will board an air-conditioned mini-van for a short drive through the town of Soufriere to the Sulphur Springs Park. You will enjoy a short guided visit of the Sulphur Springs, the Caribbean’s only ‘drive-in volcano’, so called as you can drive right into the crater to see bubbling pools letting off puffs of steam. After the Sulphur Springs, enjoy a short-guided overview of the Diamond Botanical Garden, Mineral Baths and Waterfall, rich in history and vivid in exotic color and flora. It is a superb natural environment, where you will be introduced to a wide array of flowers, fruits and rock colorations due to the mineral deposits. Next, you visit the Soufriere Plantation House. The stately plantation house sits within the historic Soufriere Estate which has been an integral part of the development of Soufriere for hundreds of years. The original house was built in 1743 but was destroyed by a hurricane in 1780; the house was rebuilt on the remaining foundation and cellar and still features furnishings and craftsmanship of the time. Friendly staff dressed in traditional Creole apparel will welcome you to the house. You will be given a short informative talk on the history of the house, family and estate. Enjoy a choice of Fruit Juice and Coconut treats and an artistically displayed selection of fruits, vegetables and flowers grown for hundreds of years on the estate. The entire front of the house, including the drawing room, will be open for you to view. Afterwards, take a short shuttle ride to the Old Mill Restaurant with its spinning waterwheel. Once, one of the oldest estate factories in St. Lucia, the Old Mill was built in 1765 for the processing of Sugar Cane. The large water wheel was imported from London in 1785 and was used to power the rollers which extracted the sugar cane, then in later years to crush limes to extract lime juice and oil for export. On arrival at the Old Mill you will have a scrumptious buffet lunch before returning to the pier and SeaDream.
Notes: Guests need to be able to negotiate a limited number of steps, minor inclines, a minimal amount of cobblestones or uneven surfaces, and some standing for extended periods of time. It is recommended that guests wear light clothes and comfortable flat shoes.
