The Médoc Vineyards, Land of the Most Famous Wine Estates
This is a true SeaDream Wine Experience at the Château Phélan Ségur in the Médoc vineyards: After a panoramic drive in the vineyards of Médoc, passing by some of the most famous estates in the world, you will visit the cellars of splendid Château Phélan-Ségur, as well as taste its wines, famous for their elegance.
From the pier you will head south to the Médoc vineyards area, driving along the famous ‘Route des Châteaux’. The Médoc wine road or ‘Route des Châteaux’ located between the Gironde estuary and the Landes Forest, provides magnificent views of vine-covered gravely rises as far as the eye can see. Médoc vineyards are orderly and well-kept almost to the point of fanaticism, and the region’s famous chateaux produce wines that are nothing short of divine: Moulis, Listrac, St. Julien, St. Estèphe, auillac, Margaux (with the celebrated château of the same name). En route a short photo-stop will be made to admire one of the picturesque châteaux, ie Château Lafite Rothschild. You will visit the cellars of Château Phélan-Ségur, be explained the techniques of wine making, be shown around the cellars, before a wine tasting of three vintages of the local wine. Located in the village of Saint-Estèphe, Château Phélan Ségur has proudly overlooked the Gironde estuary since the early 19th century. Its history is intimately linked with that of the Médoc. Founded by Irishman Bernard Phelan when he united Clos de Garramey and Domaine Ségur de Cabanac, the estate was developed by his son, Frank, and renamed Phélan Ségur in the early 20th century. The cellar and vat room are integrated into the château in a highly unusual architectural ensemble. The wines are aged with the greatest of care and Phélan Ségur is famous for its elegance, finesse, and balance. Château Phélan Ségur has raised the art of hospitality to new heights. Today, Chateau Phélan Ségur is owned by the Gardinier family, also the owner of the Taillevent restaurant in Paris, and the Crayères Relais & Chateau Hotel-Restaurant in Reims. After some of the best wine tasting, you and your fellow SeaDream guests will return driving scenically to enjoy more of the charming vineyard countryside, before arriving back into Le Verdon, Port Medoc and your SeaDream yacht.
