Port Name Description
This stop happens to be the capital of Grenada and offers our guests active activities such as hiking and tubing. This destination is becoming more popular due to the moderate tropical climate that ensures the success of spice production. Nutmegs are the most plentiful crop, followed by an array of such spices as cocoa, mace, cloves, vanilla, cinnamon and ginger. SeaDream guests can also enjoy playing from the water sports marina as we are scheduled to anchor in this port of call.
The Panama Canal (Spanish: Canal de Panama) is an 82-kilometre (51 mi) ship canal in Panama that connects the Atlantic Ocean (via the Caribbean Sea) to the Pacific Ocean. The canal cuts across the Isthmus of Panama and is a key conduit for international maritime trade. Work on the canal, which began in 1880, was completed in 1914, making it no longer necessary for ships to sail the lengthy Cape Horn route around the southernmost tip of South America and to navigate the dangerous waters of the Strait of Magellan. One of the largest and most difficult engineering projects ever undertaken, the Panama Canal shortcut made it possible for ships to travel between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans in half the time previously required. The shorter, faster, safer route to the U.S. West Coast and to nations in and along the Pacific Ocean allowed those places to become more integrated with the world economy. Ownership of the territory that is now the Panama Canal was first Colombian, then French and then American before coming under the control of the Panamanian government in 1999. The Panama Canal has seen annual traffic rise from about 1,000 ships when it opened in 1914, to 14,702 vessels in 2008, the latter measuring a total of 309.6 million Panama Canal/Universal Measurement System (PC/UMS) tons. By 2008, more than 815,000 vessels had passed through the canal, many of them much larger than the original planners could have envisioned; the largest ships that can transit the canal today are called Panamax. The American Society of Civil Engineers has named the Panama Canal one of the seven wonders of the modern world.
SeaDream uses the port of Bridgetown as the hub for their Southern Caribbean voyages as well as some of voyages that cross the Atlantic. The Island itself includes Unesco Heritage Sites, excellent beaches and history dating back to 1628. The climate is tropical with constant warm temperatures during the year cooled by light trade winds.

From here, you will continue to the Tula Museum, which is located in a beautiful restored plantation house, where you have a nice view over the hills, the plantation and the Caribbean Sea. This museum and their guides will give you, in an interactive way, an idea about how the people used to live on the island, during and after slavery times. They will even sing a nice local song for you. The next stop is the most beautiful tropical beach on the island, with its unforgettable azure blue sea and white beach. You can see the tropical fish swimming through the crystal clear waters. This is the most perfect place for making your tropical vacation photos. First you will visit the Curacao marketplace. At this market the local people buy their food or ingredients for home cooking. After this typical local market, you will pass by the floating fruit & vegetable market. This typical market exists from Venezuelan schooners, where from the crew sells their products from their boats. On the way to Fort Amsterdam, you will pass the beautifully colored merchant houses on the quay of the harbor entrance. There houses are perfect models for great Curacao vacation pictures. Fort Amsterdam is a nice place and home to the governor of the Netherlands Antilles. The last part of this walk will be to cross the floating bridge that connects both sides of the city. If the bridge is open, due to ship traffic, we will make use of the ferries. Your guide will escort you back to the yacht, right through the Riffort with many shops and the new Renaissance hotel. Off course you could also stay behind in the center and enjoy the various shops or restaurants a little longer.
