Port Name Description
Komodo Island is best known for its indigenous Komodo Dragons – considered the last of their kind. Known locally as ora, the giant monitor lizards can grow to more than 9 ft/2.75 m and 300 lbs/136 kg. All monitor lizards, so named for their natural association (monitor in the sense of 'detection') with the presence of crocodiles, are big animals. More important, however, Komodo Dragon jaws are powerful and both teeth and talons are as sharp as razor blades. Their saliva hosts a deadly bacterium that quickly disables prey. SeaDream guests will have the unique opportunity to meet Komodo Dragons accompanied by a Park Ranger.
Lombok's mini-kingdoms – each ruled by a Sasak prince – coexisted in relative peace. The island was subject to frequent foreign invasion. Bali, the nearest neighbor, was a major threat. The Balinese king sought to expand his realm. Religious belief has always distinguished the Indonesian islands. Now known as 'island of a thousand mosques,' Lombok was transformed when Islam reached the Indonesian archipelago in the 16th century. Like their neighbors, Lombok's people worshipped ancestors and held firm in the belief that their priests could communicate with the spirit world. Visit an authentic Sasak community or bicycle your way to Mapak village with SeaDream Land Adventures.
Tanjung Emas – Semarang harbor – is central Java's heartbeat, so the city's main focus is really commerce rather than tourism. Still, visitors are welcome and roads leading from the port are well maintained. Semarang is (usually!) free of the heavy congestion and chaos that characterize other Asian port cities, so it an ideal starting point for exploring the island – especially the wonder that is Borobudur. 'Old Semarang,' still visible in the city's Dutch colonial warehouses and homes, lures visitors with the elegance that reflects the port's place as an 18th-century jewel.
A string of small islands stretches just outside the Bay of Jakarta offering accessible refuge to those who dwell in the huge city. Pulau Seribu ('the Thousand Islands') really only number somewhere around 100 islands, but the romantic nickname persists. Most of the tiny specks feature lovely beaches blanketed with sand that has been described as 'golden talcum powder.' Their protective coral reef teems with marine wildlife, and the archipelago is protected as part of a Marine National Park. Some of the outlying islets offer excellent diving opportunities.
Lee Kuan Yew, first and longest reigning Prime Minister of Singapore, stepped down in 1990. Known as 'father of Singapore,' Mr. Lee's guidance unquestionably created an economic marvel and model safe society out of a chaotic post-war, post-colonial state. The rules are tough, but clear. Jaywalkers are fined on the spot. Drop litter – and you pay (smokers beware!). Explore the city-state's impressive modernity and tradition in its architecture. I.M. Pei's striking Gateway and Moshe Safdie's Marin Bay Sands point the way to the future, but don't miss the handsome Old Parliament House.
The aroma of fragrant spice leads you to Bali's shores. The tiny clove-scented island off Java's southeastern tip is steeped in tradition, and unique Balinese Hindu-animist faith is on full display. Although Besakih is the mother shrine (Ulun Danu, Tanah Lot and Goa Lawah are also notable), even the island's tiniest villages have at least one temple. But Bali displays a second nature – especially in the south around the areas of Kuta Beach and Nusa Dua. Here, visitors worship another spirit – the Goddess who presides over a delightful land of luxurious decadence. SeaDream is offering several active Land Adventures at Benoa. Enjoy a challenging round of golf, take a painting lesson or learn some exciting new cooking techniques from a master chef.

Komodo Diving at Pink Beach

OYour dive site at Pink Beach is called Pantai Merah by local people. The naming describes the place well: it has red colored sand. This Komodo diving site is part of Komodo Island's shoreline. It is probably the most well-known Komodo dive site as you have to pass this dive site when you want to see the fiery dragons from the park station Generally, the dive site is a good place with clear water. Pink Beach is between 5 and 30m deep with visibility between 8 and 25m. Sometimes it sees occasional current of 0-1 knot, with rather stronger current flows in the area between Punya Island and Komodo Island. The current represents the transition between the temperate water in the south and the tropical water of the north Marine life is rich here with the schooling fish, fusiliers, as the dominant species. When you go deeper, you find pelagic such as snapper, trevallies, and sweetlips. At around 25m, the coral outcrops drops rather slightly. Around the corals, you can find reef fish like cardinal, butterfly, damselfish, grouper, angel, batfish, anthias, wrasse, surgeon, parrot, box, trigger, porcupine, and puffer. Flounder, Moray, Gobies, Frogfish, Eels and Leaf fish are permanent bottom dwellers at this Komodo diving site. Octopus, shrimp and crabs are easily visible. Snakes and turtles are rarely visible here as well as the rays and sharks, but sometimes you can meet white tip shark.

Fascinating Borobudur

Experience the history and enigmatic allure of Borobudur, the spiritual center of Javanese Buddhism. This SeaDream Land Adventure is designed to allow you to explore this historic site in depth. You will depart by coach from Tanjung Emas Port to the incredible UNESCO World Heritage site of Borobudur. We drive through the dramatic landscape of central Java and stop at a local coffee shop to break our journey en route to Borobudur and its remarkable man-made marvel. The world's largest Buddhist monument, Borobudur, was constructed between 778 and 856 AD, and built with over two million cubic feet of stone. This massive building project exhausted five generations of central Java's population, yet within little more than a century of its completion, was mysteriously abandoned. A subsequent eruption of neighboring Mount Merapi completely covered the site in ash and it wasn't rediscovered until 1814. The painstaking excavation and restoration of Borobudur was accomplished at a cost of $25 million, but has given us today a remarkable monument that stands as a symbol to an ancient and glorious heritage. After your morning exploration of the temple, you will be treated to a buffet lunch of Indonesian specialties, and a delightful performance by local entertainers. Re-boarding your coach, it's a relaxing and scenic drive back to the pier where your adventure will conclude. Please note: Due to the travel distance between Semarang and Borobudur, travel time is generally in excess of two hours in each direction. Comfort stops are made en-route.
