Your educational excursion today will give you an opportunity to get your bearings on this historically rich and fascinating city, with a panoramic tour of Santiago by motor coach with your local Cuban guide.

The exchange starts with a stop at the historical site of San Juan Hill (Loma de San Juan), where Theodore Roosevelt led a fearless cavalry charge against the Spanish troops on July 1st, 1898. The Battle of San Juan Hill was a decisive action during the Spanish–American War.

Enjoy a short scenic drive through the city's Vista Alegre Quarter, Revolution Square and Moncada Barracks, famously stormed by Fidel Castro on July 26th, 1953. Continue with a walking tour of Cespedes Park, the heart and soul of Santiago de Cuba which will provide the opportunity to engage and interact with local Cubans. This is the main square of the city, here you will see and experience the daily life of the locals.

Next, you will visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Charity. Built in 1927 and lodged in the green foothills of the Sierra Maestra near the old copper mines, the shrine at El Cobre has become the most important pilgrimage place in the entire island, and thousands of people go every year to express their devotion for Cuba’s patron saint.

You will finish the afternoon with an exclusive performance and engagement with the local Steel Drum Band project. Enjoy the performance and opportunity to interact with the Cuban musicians after the show. Return to the port.
