Santiago Photo Safari

Santiago Photo Safari

This Santiago Yachting Land Adventure is a fabulous opportunity for beginners and experienced photographers to expand their knowledge and photographic portfolio by viewing through their camera lens Cuba’s most dynamic, colorful, musical, and lively city. Embark on an educational journey of Santiago de Cuba with a local Cuban professional photographer. During this experience, you will be able to interact with your host and capture great images of the city using your own camera.

The exchange begins with a historical overview of the region while visiting the impressive San Pedro de la Roca Castle, a multilevel stone fortress built into a rocky promontory (El Morro) at the entrance of Santiago de Cuba’s harbor. Considered today the largest and most comprehensive example of the principles of Renaissance military engineering adapted to the requirements of European colonial powers in the Caribbean, the fortress offers incredible views of the western coastline, backed by the imposing Sierra Maestra mountain range. Once inside, stop by the museum dedicated to Caribbean piracy.

Next, you will head to Santa Ifigenia Cemetery, resting place of Jose Marti, Cuban National Hero and late President Fidel Castro, among other important characters in Cuban history. Here, you will have the opportunity to engage with your Cuban professional photographer specialist as he provides an overview of this historical site and to view the solemn change of the guard’s ceremony which is performed in front of the Jose Marti and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes mausoleum. This cemetery offers unique cultural and historic photo opportunities.

Before the educational photographic exchange concludes, your last stop will be the rooftop terrace of iconic Hotel Casa Granda, splendidly situated in the main square at Cespedes Park. It’s also the place where Wormold stayed in Graham Greene’s novel “Our Man in Havana”. Once on the rooftop, you will be amazed by the stunning views of the city, as you will have plenty of panoramic photo opportunities. Enjoy a cocktail, and discussion with local Cuban specialists and staff about your experiences before returning to the port.
