Cuban Rhythms & Dance

Santiago de Cuba is Cuba’s second largest city and the birthplace of the Cuban Revolution. This educational exchange adventure provides the opportunity to engage with Cuban individuals as you explore this culturally rich city.

Start your adventure with a short transfer via motor coach to Cespedes Park located in the heart of the historic center. During your walking tour, you will engage with your Cuban local guide who provides a general overview to the city’s history and culture.

Next, you will visit Casa de la Trova Santiaguera. Founded in the 1950’s and housed in a beautiful balconied townhouse not far from the historic city center, Casa de la Trova is one of the most unique and authentic places to learn about traditional Cuban music. Enjoy a live performance by one of the most popular local bands that play Cuban traditional music. After listening to this contagious music, you will enjoy a local cocktail while mingling with the musicians to learn about the different musical modalities of the region.

A final interaction before concluding the tour will be an educational visit to the community dance project “Cutumba” to get acquainted with popular rhythms in the area, particularly the Conga which is considered the soul of Santiago de Cuba. Here you will have the opportunity to engage with Cuban artists to learn about the Afro Cuban dance traditions of the region before returning to the port via motor coach.
