This Yachting Land Adventure highlights the main sights that Ayia Napa offers. The day begins with a visit of Cyherbia Botanical Park and a walk through their botanical gardens. You will learn about the various healing properties of their herbs such as sage, peppermint, lavender, rosemary, thyme and how they are used to strengthen the human immune system and can serve as natural remedies. The Park also has a distillation room where the process for extracting essential oils and hydrosols from the herbs is explained. Each season different oils are extracted from the herbs in season and in October the laurel herb (daphne in Greek) will be in season. At the Tearoom, you will enjoy a cold herbal infusion drink and as it is October (and close to Halloween time) you will also enjoy a home-made pumpkin muffin.
Continue to central Ayia Napa for a visit of the Thalassa Municipal Museum of the Sea. Created to promote awareness of the marine heritage of Cyprus from prehistoric times to the present, this is a modern, interactive museum. The main exhibit of the museum, it is the 'Kyrenia II', a life size replica of the ancient ship Kyrenia which dates back to 400 B.C. Visitors can walk on a glass floor, where a reconstruction of the historic shipwreck is displayed and a documentary film is screened, about the excavations of this ancient ship.
Next walk through the Ayia Napa streets toward the Monastery of Ayia Napa – which is currently undergoing renovations. This Monastery dates to the 15th Century and was originally built by the Venetians. The sycamore tree in front of its south gate is believed to be 600 years old. Here you will have some free time to explore the main square filled with shops and cafes before boarding the coach to return to the yacht.
Notes: On Sundays, the Thalassa Municipal Museum of the Sea is not open and these alternative venues will be visited: Chapel of Agiou Anargyroi, a photostop at "Kamara you Koraka" and the outside of Ayia Napa Monastery. A minimum participation is required to operate all Yachting Land Adventures, and some may have limited capacity. All adventures in the SeaDream Yachting Land Adventures program are subject to change.
