Gibraltar Encounter

Gibraltar Encounter

Meet the resident Barbary Apes and discover the famous tunnels of Gibraltar, all while learning of its strategic importance and intriguing history on this guided Yachting Land Adventure.

The impenetrable fortifications which surround the Rock of Gibraltar are testament to a turbulent past of sieges and military conquest. Join this land adventure and follow the historical trails that will unfold Gibraltar’s biggest mysteries and secrets. A short bus ride will take you to the Pillars of Hercules, separating Spain and Gibraltar from north Africa, where you will enjoy magnificent views over 2 continents and 3 countries.

Reboard the coach, for the next stop to meet the oldest inhabitants of Gibraltar, the Barbary apes (macaque apes) and see where they live. Continue to Princess Caroline's Battery and the entrance to the Great Siege Tunnels. This system of tunnels was manually dug out by a detachment of British military artificers with sledgehammers, crowbars and gunpowder during the events of The Great Siege of 1779-1783. Next up, you will get to see how the influence of the Great Siege influenced the WWII fortifications with a visit to the WWII Tunnels. Afterwards you will return to your waiting SeaDream yacht.

Notes: No bags, or food, should be taken outside the bus. Please do not approach, feed or handle the primates at the Apes' Den as they have been known to bite. Be sure to wear ccomfortable clothes, with closed toe shoes, sunscreen, and a hat. There are several uneven and sloping steps to visit the tunnels.

St. Michael’s Cave will be closed during the date of our call (13Nov’22) due to an electrical shutdown.
