Scenic St. Lucia
By air-conditioned bus, you will drive through the city of Castries past the market and the century-old Cathedral to Morne Fortune. Here, you will marvel at the superb, sweeping view of the city and the spectacular mountain range that extends across the island. Winding up the hills, your next stop is at Caribelle Batik known for its exquisite beautiful, intricate batik designs. The unique fabrics produced are made into lovely, cool casual wear that you may like to purchase. A spectacular drive along a ridge separating the Cul de Sac Valley from the Roseau Valley is next. The views of banana plantations, picturesque Marigot and the lush mountains of St. Lucia are breathtaking and so there you are given the opportunity of a photo stop. Travelling down the west coast, you will pass through the small fishing village of Anse la Raye to view the local lifestyle. Stroll through to the old Roman Catholic Church yard for photos and mingle with the amiable and cheerful street vendors. The highlight of this adventure is a visit to the Pink Plantation located on 2 acres of tropical gardens and lush vegetations of historical Morne Fortune lending an almost panoramic and stunning view of the city, the north of the island, neighboring Martinique on the horizon. During French occupation the Pink Plantation was used for housing senior officers of the military and later as a small coffee estate. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by ladies in national wear and ushered in through the hallway of the old antique estate house. There, you will be given a brief history of the house and antique pieces within. This place is also home to local resident artist Michelle Elliot. You will have the opportunity to witness the making of Wild Orchid hand painted ceramics, silk screen fabrics and view original paintings created by the artist. After the tour of the house and tropical gardens, you can relax on the verandah admiring the tapestry of Castries below while savoring a fresh local fruit juice and local snacks. Then, travel north through scenic countryside roads and farming villages to Rodney Bay where you will rejoin SeaDream.
