Villages at the Home of Centaurs–Mount Pelion

Mount Pelion was the place where the ancient Greek gods and heroes were entertained. The home of the Centaurs according to Greek mythology.

Once you visit its picturesque villages, 24 in total, you can easily understand why this place was chosen by the gods. The villages are spread out along the slopes, among chestnut and apple trees and gurgling crystal waters and most of the villages have remained untouched over the centuries and the architecture of their homes is unique.

After a 30 minute drive from the Volos port you will arrive at the colorful, fertile village of Portaria with its stone houses built on the mountainside.

After Portaria is the picturesque village of Makrinitsa, perhaps the most beautiful village in Pelion and one of the prettiest in Greece. You may stroll around the traditional houses, the old churches and the little shops with local delicacies. Afterwards you can rest and have a cup of coffee in the most impressive central square, under the shade of the plane trees. Apart from the view offered from here, which is majestic, you may also admire the frescoes painted by the famous painter Theophilos in one of the cafes in the square. Filled with unrivalled images you shall return to the port of Volos and your SeaDream yacht.
