The town of Sibenik is situated in one of the most well-protected natural harbors on the Croatian coast. Your SeaDream yacht navigates in to the harbor past numerous islands in the archipelago and through a channel that is, in parts, less than 500 feet wide. While Sibenik is less well known than Dubrovnik and Split, it has its own personality and some great things to see and enjoy. Sibenik's St. James Cathedral is one of the marvels of the Dalmatian Coast and is Unesco World Heritage listed as of November 2000. In the old town, little streets lead to attractive squares where modern shops blend into the fine and stylish architecture of vanished centuries. Nearby is the Krka National Park with its river and numerous waterfalls and cascades. SeaDream Land Adventures offer you an orientation of the city as well as venturing to the Krka National Park & Waterfalls as well as the neighboring town of Zadar and Liquor Tasting.
The island of Rab, located just off the northern Croatian coast in the Adriatic Sea, is rich in cultural heritage and cultural-historical monuments. The town, encircled by 12-century medieval walls, offers beautiful views of the harbor, a plethora of churches and four campaniles that are still the town’s most conspicuous landmarks. Visit the Church of Justina with its museum of sacral art, the Church of St. John the Baptist, the Prince’s Palace or the sculptures of Draga. The island is very popular with tourists and families for its beautiful nature, beaches, heritage and many cultural events.
Opatija is a tranquil resort sometimes referred to as “Croatian Monte Carlo” on the sheltered east coast of the Istrian peninsula of Croatia. This village is a complete contrast to the dry Dalmatian coastal towns further south. Green hillsides give way to gardens and parks full of exotic plants down by the ocean. This town was developed in the 1880s specifically as a chic resort. Its mild climate and stunning setting made it a favorite winter destination for the 19th century Austrian and Hungarian aristocracy. Most of the hotels in town were constructed from this period. Opatija's highly jagged and rocky coast is bordered by a shady promenade, the Lungomare, which extends for 12km to the picturesque village of Lovran. Along the way, there are dozens of picturesque secluded coves to stretch out a towel along the rocks and jump into the sea.
Rovinj is a popular tourist resort in Croatia situated on the north Adriatic Sea. It is situated on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula and remains as one of the last true fishing ports. SeaDream has arranged some unique land adventure options including; Porec, a Touch of History, Culture & The Family Tradition of Wine Making, and the very popular Searching For Truffles in the Countryside. SeaDream is scheduled to anchor to offer water sports activities from the marina (Permission and conditions pending).
Venice has been known as the "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Water", "City of Masks", "City of Bridges", "The Floating City", and "City of Canals". Luigi Barzini, writing in The New York Times, described it as "undoubtedly the most beautiful city built by man". Venice has also been described by the Times Online as being one of Europe's most romantic cities. Founded in the 5th century, the city stretches across 118 small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic. In 1987 Venice and its Lagoon was inscribed as an UNESCO Heritage site. SeaDream typically docks at the San Basilio pier after navigating by the famous St. Mark’s Square down the grand canal. With its yacht stature, SeaDream vessels are amongst the very few commercial vessels that can navigate this famous waterway. SeaDream does offer Land Adventures when overnighting. You can also contact our destination specialists should you need a private arrangement, transfer or hotel recommendation.

Walking The Walled Town

This guided walk through the walled town is an excellent opportunity to not only get to know your way around for later independent explorations but your knowledge and experienced guide will provide you with a historic insight and context to let you appreciate this beautiful town to its fullest. As you arrive at the walled city of Dubrovnik via SeaDream tender and enter its fortress walls through the Harbor Gate, gaze up at the ever-watchful St. Blaise, the patron saint of the city. Once inside, you are sure to notice immediately the absence of signage and neon, its stone-paved Stradun Avenue lined with graceful stone palazzos, shops, sidewalk cafes and government buildings all looking as they did hundreds of years ago. Along the way we visit, among other places the Maritime Museum with a special emphasis on the glorious period of seamanship under Dubrovnik Republic in the 16th century, the Rector's Palace (15th century) once the seat of the Government and Rector in the, once, independent Republic of Dubrovnik (abolished by Napoleon in 1808). Today it gives us a taste of how the ruling class and the aristocracy used to live. Other fine buildings will be viewed from the outside: the Sponza Palace notable for its column courtyard with elaborate stone carvings, Church of Saint Blaise, Onofriou`s Fountain, etc. A knowledgeable guide brings the rich history of this visually stunning city alive! At the conclusion of this walking adventure, a stop is made at the one of the local cafe's in the Old Town for a refreshment of cookies, coffees and soft drinks.

Notes It is also possible to walk the perimeter of the walls that surround the city. Due to the amount of steps involved, this is not included in the tour. Opatija

Opatija Area - Thru 1,000 Years

Upon disembarkation, a pleasant walk with your guide will introduce you to the charms of the town of Opatija, the "Croatian Monte Carlo". The town is surrounded by beautiful woods of bay laurel and the indented and rocky coast is bordered by a shady promenade, the Lungomare. The town's modern history began in the mid-1800's when it became a fashionable destination for the Austrian imperial family and Austrian nobility and many luxury hotels, villas and beautiful parks were built, attracting tourists from Europe and world for more than 160 years. On your walk, you will visit attractive parks along the Lungomare and will also pass the Villa Angiolina and the Convent of St. Jacob. After the walking adventure of Opatija, your land adventure continues by motor coach to the ancient hilltop village of Moscenice. At an altitude of 600 feet above sea level, the town is located on the site of the historical settlement of the Illyrian tribe Liburnia, and is typically built as a concentrically conceived settlement with outer walls consisting of houses whose outside walls function as walls of the fortress. In such an enclosed environment, space is precious and all houses are built close to one another, separated by narrow streets and sometimes linked by covered passages. Much of the medieval structure is still visible. Besides the old St. Andrew church, places of interest are the local ethnographic museum and an old olive extraction mill. The village was first mentioned as an independent community with its own statute in 1374. Moscenice reveals breathtaking views over the entire Kvarner Bay. Enjoy spectacular views while tasting local cheese, hams and sipping glass of very nice wine!

Searching For Truffles in the Countryside

An exclusive SeaDream experience awaits a small group of our guests today. Few areas of the world afford a real search for the "culinary gold" known as truffles, and most truffle farmers are extremely cautious of "trespassers" to protect their valuable crop. Leave Rovinj and enjoy the picturesque drive through the lowlands to the village of Lavide, the capital for truffles in Croatia, where you will meet your "truffle guide. Each guide has a dog trained to recognize the strong odor of the truffle, which grows under the ground invisible to the naked eye. After 90 minutes of exploration on foot through the countryside, you will re-meet your fellow SeaDreamers in a local tavern and private wine cellar for a light lunch to taste various dishes including enhanced by the truffle, including eggs, pate as well as local cheeses, fruits, "doughnuts" and wines. As you are in one of the most beautiful areas of Croatia, and as the picturesque town of Motovun is just a short distance away, a visit makes sense and your free time can be spent purchasing truffles and truffle products or just taking in the ambience of this hilltop village.

Notes While ever effort is made by the guides to locate truffles (they are invisible!), SeaDream cannot guarantee that they will be found! In an effort to make this Yachting Land Adventure a genuine truffle hunt, we have advised the guides not to 'plant' truffles in the hope that you will enjoy the authenticity of the experience and thrill of the “hunt.” The period from January through September is considered a good period to search for the black variety while October through December is a better period for white truffles. Please wear flat comfortable walking shoes and remember that you will be walking through forest and other natural surroundings where the path can be muddy. And, for those not in the know, forests all over the world harbour insects, including mosquitoes; we recommend that you bring, and use, insect repellant (if you did not bring your own, it is available for sale in the gift shop onboard). Should it be a hot & sunny day during your visit, please bring protection from the sun and extra water, which is available, complimentary, at the gangway. A minimum participation is required to operate all Yachting Land Adventures and participation on this adventure is limited to 24 guests divided into two smaller groups, each with their own local truffle “guide.” If you have not pre-booked please make your reservations as soon as possible after boarding to avoid disappointment. All adventures and prices in the SeaDream Yachting Land Adventures program are subject to change. A short drive north of Sibenik takes us to the Krka National Park. The park encloses an area of 42 square miles along the Krka River. The area has numerous travertine waterfalls and cascades along the river which falls a total of 800 feet from its start in the Dinaric Mountains. Upon arrival at the Park we head for the last set of falls before the river meets the sea. The Skradinski Buk Falls form a spectacular multi-level cascade over travertine cliffs. They are 150 feet tall and are segmented in 17 greater or smaller stages interspersed with a series of miniature azure lakes. The Krka river comes in contact with sea water in this area. Bring your bathing suit so that you can take a dip just below the falls. Krka is rich in flora and fauna with well over 200 bird species living here, making it one of the most valuable ornithological areas in Europe. This unique area has been kept in its original state. Town of Zadar and Liquor Tasting

The Zadar area was already settled in the Neolithic period, and in the 9th c. B.C. the peninsula was occupied by an Illyrian people, the Liburni. The town is first refered to in Greek sources of the 4th c. B.C. under the name of Idissa and already in the 1st c. B.C. it was taken by the Romans who called it Jadera. Your SeaDream Land Adventure begins from the pier and soon you will find yourself in the heart of this magnificent Old Town. Your walking adventure includes a visit to the Cathedral of St. Anastasia, the finest example of Romanesque architecture in Zadar and which has a notable W front of 1324. It is dedicated to St. Anastasia, whose stone sarchophagus is in the apse to the left of the high altar. Further on your way you will pass close to the Church of St. Donatus which is believed to have been built by Bishop Donatus on Roman foundations at the beginning of the 9th century. This is a most monumental church on the East side of the Adriatic, it is circular in plan, with three naves. To the eastern of the Forum you come to the 16th c. St Mary Church with a romanseque bell-tower built at the beginning of the 12th c. by the Hungarian – Croatian king Koloman. On the upper floor of the convent, open to the public are rooms containing a collection of goldsmith´s work, relics and other valuable items. Your Land Adventure will end with a Wine, Cheese and Marascino Liqueur Tasting at Arsenal Tavern situted in the Old Town of Zadar at the vicinity of the pier area. Liqueur production in Zadar is almost 400 years old. The most known liqueur is Maraschino a bittersweet, clear liqueur flavored with Marasca cherries, which are grown in Dalmatia, Croatia, mostly around the city of Zadar. The liqueur's distinctive flavor comes from the Marasca cherries, and the crushed cherry pits lend an almond-like flavor to Maraschino. Honey is also part of the ancient recipe. The distillate is allowed to mature for two years in Finnish ash wood vats (because this wood does not lend its color to the liqueur even after many years of maturing), and is then diluted and sugared. It is typically bottled in a straw-coated bottle. The recipe for this liqueur was created by the apothecaries of the Dominican monastery at Zara, now Zadar, in Dalmatia, at the beginning of the 16th century, it was known under the name of Rosolj (Rožolj, Rosolio), which came from the word "ros solis"- "the sun dew". In the 18th century this liqueur was named Maraschino, as it was produced from the essence of ripe fruits of the cherry marasca, as well as from the leaves of its sprigs. In the agrarian regions of Dalmatia, Rosolj survived as the name of a traditional home made liqueur made from marasca cherries. At the beginning, this noble liqueur of delicate taste to which medicinal effects were also attributed, was available only to the privileged. With the appearance of the first manufacturing distillers at Zara in the 17th century (Rota, Mola and Calcengio), the secret of Rosolj (Maraschino) taste could be spread. In 18th century when the industrial production of this liqueur began, Maraschino set out from Zara and "sailed" into ever more important European ports and major cities. Soon it was accepted and favored by all European courts (Viennese, Berlin, the English court, the Bavarian, Italian, Belgium, and Danish courts) and later on Maraschino spread to America, Canada, Australia, South America and to South Africa. Maraschino was also admired by one of the biggest conquerors of the 19th century, Napoleon Bonaparte, who specially enjoyed it after dinner or supper. The French kings, Louis XVIII, Charles X and Louis Philippe as well as the Czar of Russia Nicholas I admired Maraschino too. The British king George IV sent to Zadar a naval fleet to collect a hundred Maraschino cases for the Royal court at London and for the governors of Malta and Corfu. In 1871 on the request of the English queen Victoria, Maraschino was loaded on the English ships at Zadar port. In 1887, namely on September 26th, on his way through Zadar, the Prince of Wales who later become the king George V, personally visited Zadar liqueur factory and on that occasion ordered a considerable quantity of this specialty. In 1999, Croatian National Tourist Office declared MARASCHINO on the list of authentic Croatian Souvenirs.

Historic Split - The Diocletian's Palace & The Mestrovic Gallery

Today, SeaDream comes alongside to dock very near the centre of the city of Split; the historic and commercial center of Croatia. We commence with a panoramic drive through the town and our first visit will be the dramatic gallery of Ivan Mestrovic who is known as Croatia's premier modern sculptor. The gallery is located just outside the town of Split. Upon arrival you will be able to stroll through his Gallery and former house. At the conclusion of your walk, step outside into the beautiful garden with magnificent views over the sea. Then it's on to the city of Split, which is the product of 17 centuries of building, renovating and remodeling. Today, Split is an amazing mesh of old and new. At the core of this sprawling cityscape is one of the two the highlights of today's excursion, The Diocletian Palace, dating from the 4th century. The Palace is one of the most Imposing sites in existence. Far from being a museum, the 220 buildings within the palace boundaries are still home to 3000 people as well as housing shops and cafes. A walking tour visits the cellars of the palace, the Cathedral of St. Duje and the Temple of Jupiter. After exiting the cellars, the Golden Gate and Peristyle Square will also be seen. The Split Riviera by Speedboat

This adventure will include scenic cruise along Split Riviera Islands and you may choose with your private guide where to go and what to do. You may choose to visit the island of Hvar or the island of Brac. Year round, the sun pours down on Hvar, making its limestone towns sparkle amid green hills, rocky terrain and a sea of clear cobalt blue. Every spring, the island dons purple and the air fills with the heady smell of lavender, from which islanders make a sweet-smelling oil that seems to perfume the air the rest of the year. Hvar is the longest of all the Croatian islands and is home to three towns. The largest of these, also named Hvar, served as an important harbor for the Adriatic fleet of Venice from the late 12th century through most of the 18th century. As though to remind us of its former importance, Hvar sports a thick-walled fortress overlooking the harbor and, in the very heart of the port, a large Arsenal. But none of this appears threatening - on the contrary, the fortress invites you to climb to its summit and drink in the view, while the Arsenal, whose arched portal recalls nothing more threatening that the mouth of a bass, houses Europe`s first community theatre (built in 1612). You might choose to visit the island of Brac, the highest island in Adriatic Sea. The coast of the island is 175 km long. Numerous beaches and bays follow one another. The best-known beach is Zlatni Rat (Golden Cape) situated on the north part of the island close to the pretty town of Bol. This is a pebble beach that stretches 500 meters into the sea and is a well-known image of the Dalmatian coast.

Romantic Gondola Evening Serenade

Since Venice began there have always been gondoliers. By the 11th century most were in private service with patrician families. There were about 10,000 gondoliers in Venice in the 16th century, and today there are fewer than 400. Great skill is required to steer a boat through the narrow canals of Venice. Each gondola is 36 feet long, 4 feet wide and weighs 1,100 pounds. A gondolier serves a 10-year apprenticeship under a padrone before getting his own permit. A licensee must be native-born, and, since new licenses are not issued, must wait until a colleague gives up a license before getting his own. Their union offers free courses in foreign languages, art history and the history of Venice, but the gondoliers are not given singing lessons - every Italian seems to have a natural talent for song. Join us for a romantic tour through the canals of Venice. Riding four per gondola, you will traverse the smaller, less trafficked canals, enjoying the soft lights and balconied waterfront homes, and be serenaded as you glide along.
