Port Name Description
Venice has been known as the "Queen of the Adriatic", "City of Water", "City of Masks", "City of Bridges", "The Floating City", and "City of Canals". Luigi Barzini, writing in The New York Times, described it as "undoubtedly the most beautiful city built by man". Venice has also been described by the Times Online as being one of Europe's most romantic cities. Founded in the 5th century, the city stretches across 118 small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic. In 1987 Venice and its Lagoon was inscribed as an UNESCO Heritage site. SeaDream typically docks at the San Basilio pier after navigating by the famous St. Mark’s Square down the grand canal. With its yacht stature, SeaDream vessels are amongst the very few commercial vessels that can navigate this famous waterway. SeaDream does offer Land Adventures when overnighting. You can also contact our destination specialists should you need a private arrangement, transfer or hotel recommendation.
Opatija is a tranquil resort sometimes referred to as “Croatian Monte Carlo” on the sheltered east coast of the Istrian peninsula of Croatia. This village is a complete contrast to the dry Dalmatian coastal towns further south. Green hillsides give way to gardens and parks full of exotic plants down by the ocean. This town was developed in the 1880s specifically as a chic resort. Its mild climate and stunning setting made it a favorite winter destination for the 19th century Austrian and Hungarian aristocracy. Most of the hotels in town were constructed from this period. Opatija's highly jagged and rocky coast is bordered by a shady promenade, the Lungomare, which extends for 12km to the picturesque village of Lovran. Along the way, there are dozens of picturesque secluded coves to stretch out a towel along the rocks and jump into the sea.

The island of Rab, located just off the northern Croatian coast in the Adriatic Sea, is rich in cultural heritage and cultural-historical monuments. The town, encircled by 12-century medieval walls, offers beautiful views of the harbor, a plethora of churches and four campaniles that are still the town’s most conspicuous landmarks. Visit the Church of Justina with its museum of sacral art, the Church of St. John the Baptist, the Prince’s Palace or the sculptures of Draga. The island is very popular with tourists and families for its beautiful nature, beaches, heritage and many cultural events.
Split is one of the oldest cities in the area and the second largest city behind Dubrovnik in Croatia. The Diocletian’s Palace is not only listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site but is also considered to be one of the world’s most impressive Roman monuments. This city is believed to be over 1,700 years old, while archaeological research relates the settling to the ancient Greek colony of Aspalathos (6th century BC) establishes the city as being several hundred years older. SeaDream offers three unique land adventure opportunities; Rafting on the Cetina River, the Split Archipelago by speedboat and naturally the Historic Split overview that included the Diocletian Palace as well as the Mestrovic Gallery.
The town of Sibenik is situated in one of the most well-protected natural harbors on the Croatian coast. Your SeaDream yacht navigates in to the harbor past numerous islands in the archipelago and through a channel that is, in parts, less than 500 feet wide. While Sibenik is less well known than Dubrovnik and Split, it has its own personality and some great things to see and enjoy. Sibenik's St. James Cathedral is one of the marvels of the Dalmatian Coast and is Unesco World Heritage listed as of November 2000. In the old town, little streets lead to attractive squares where modern shops blend into the fine and stylish architecture of vanished centuries. Nearby is the Krka National Park with its river and numerous waterfalls and cascades. SeaDream Land Adventures offer you an orientation of the city as well as venturing to the Krka National Park & Waterfalls as well as the neighboring town of Zadar and Liquor Tasting.

Kotor is a coastal town in Montenegro. The old Mediterranean port of Kotor is surrounded by an impressive city wall built by the Republic of Venice and the Venetian influence remains dominant among the architectural influences. In 1979 the Bay of Kotor, City of Kotor and the surrounding territory have been listed in the UNESCO Heritage as a Cultural Site. SeaDream usually navigates close by the small islands of St. George and Our Lady of the Reef. The Bay of Kotor stretches 28 km and is one of the most indented parts of the Adriatic Sea. It is sometimes called the southern-most fjord in Europe (though it is actually a submerged river canyon called a ria). SeaDream typically docks steps away from the town. SeaDream has arranged a few different Yachting Land Adventures. One of them is a walking discovery and the other will show you the heritage and countryside of Montenegro. For the active guests, there’s incredible biking along the coast as well as a hike up to the fortress. On occasion, SeaDream may dock in the bay and tender directly to the town. We regret that watersports are not allowed in this protected area.
Dubrovnik (Pearl of the Adriatic) is one of the most prominent destinations in the Adriatic Sea. It lies in the region of Dalmatia and was awarded World Unesco Heritage status in 1979. The population is approximately 43,000 and is considered to be among the 10 best medieval walled cities in the world. SeaDream anchors off the walled city as a port of call and tenders directly to the town gate. If you check the land adventures tab you will see that there are many different options to consider in this incredible town. Dubrovnik is also an embarkation point on select voyages. On these occasions the yacht is docked at the cruise terminal.

UNESCO's Walled City Walk with Oysters & Wine

"Those who seek paradise on earth", George Bernard Shaw once wrote, "should come to Dubrovnik". Today, he might add that Dubrovnik is the place for all those who wish to renew themselves and their faith in human nature. This guided walk through the walled town is an excellent opportunity to not only get to know your way around for later independent explorations but your knowledge and experienced guide will provide you with a historic insight and context to let you appreciate this beautiful town to its fullest. As you arrive at the walled city of Dubrovnik via SeaDream tender and enter its fortress walls through the Harbor Gate, gaze up at the ever-watchful St. Blaise, the patron saint of the city. Once inside, you are sure to notice immediately the absence of signage and neon, its stone-paved Stradun Avenue lined with graceful stone palazzos, shops, sidewalk cafes and government buildings all looking as they did hundreds of years ago. Along the way you will visit The Cathedral built on the remains of another one built in the 12th century that was destroyed in 1667 by an disastrous earthquake. Today its treasure contains one of the finest collections of gold and silver in Europe. The Dominican Monastery & Church with its finest collection of Renaissance paintings in Dubrovnik. Among many local and Italian masters the highlight is a painting by Tizian. Other fine buildings will be viewed from the outside: the Sponza Palace notable for its column courtyard with elaborate stone carvings, The Church of Saint Blaise, Onofriou`s Fountain, and more... At the end of your walking discovery, your guide will escort you to a local oyster & sushi bar located close to the Old Town port where you will be able to taste delicious oysters from the Adriatic sea and have a glass of wine before going back to your SeaDream yacht.

Opatija

Opatija Area - Thru 1,000 Years

Upon disembarkation, a pleasant walk with your guide will introduce you to the charms of the town of Opatija, the "Croatian Monte Carlo". The town is surrounded by beautiful woods of bay laurel and the indented and rocky coast is bordered by a shady promenade, the Lungomare. The town's modern history began in the mid-1800's when it became a fashionable destination for the Austrian imperial family and Austrian nobility and many luxury hotels, villas and beautiful parks were built, attracting tourists from Europe and world for more than 160 years. On your walk, you will visit attractive parks along the Lungomare and will also pass the Villa Angiolina and the Convent of St. Jacob. After the walking adventure of Opatija, your land adventure continues by motor coach to the ancient hilltop village of Moscenice. At an altitude of 600 feet above sea level, the town is located on the site of the historical settlement of the Illyrian tribe Liburnia, and is typically built as a concentrically conceived settlement with outer walls consisting of houses whose outside walls function as walls of the fortress. In such an enclosed environment, space is precious and all houses are built close to one another, separated by narrow streets and sometimes linked by covered passages. Much of the medieval structure is still visible. Besides the old St. Andrew church, places of interest are the local ethnographic museum and an old olive extraction mill. The village was first mentioned as an independent community with its own statute in 1374. Moscenice reveals breathtaking views over the entire Kvarner Bay. Enjoy spectacular views while tasting local cheese, hams and sipping glass of very nice wine!

Streets of Rab (visit to Rab Crossbowmen Association)

The small town of Rab was once encircled by medieval walls in the 12th century. Today, parts of the walls can still be seen along the cliffs, and in a few places close to the harbor. The historic town was founded in Roman times along a narrow tongue of land, so when travelers approached from the sea, they could see it proudly atop the head of the bay. Many were impressed by the town’s ancient ramparts towering above the sea, and admired the sails of numerous ships in her sheltered harbor as well as the four campaniles, which are still the town’s most conspicuous landmarks. Rab is truly a town of rare charm packed with fine old houses and other interesting buildings.

Your guided walking adventure will show you some of the finest features of this lovely town, including a view of the Cathedral, a three nave basilica dedicated to the 12th century St. Mary. Further in the town, you will visit the Church of Justina with its fine Museum of Sacral Art. Along the walk you will also have the opportunity to see the finest buildings in town, including the Church of St. John the Baptist and ruins of the ancient basilica, the Princes Palace, and the sculptures of Draga and Kaliforni in the town’s main square, just to mention a few. Visit to the Association of Rab Crossbowmen
The Association of the Crossbowmen of the Island of Rab was founded on 15 February 1995 while the Knight Games were restored in the same year, precisely on October 28. Since then, as many as 143 tournaments of knights have been held on the island of Rab, in many Croatian towns and abroad.

The association includes 156 members divided into groups such as crossbowmen, trumpeters, buglers, flag bearers, dancers, music players, gunners and squires. The games take place in the town of Rab and in some twin towns such as San Marino and Königsbrunn on Victory Day (May 9), Statehood Day (June 25),St. Christopher’s Day (July 27) and Feast of Assumption (August 15).

The costumes of the crossbowmen and trumpeters of Rab were designed by costume designer Dijana Boureek of the Croatian National Theatre of Zagreb based on a scientific study of Dr Jelka Radauš Ribarić. The crossbows were made by the crossbowmen themselves with assistance of crossbowmen of San Marino (balestrieri). They weigh from 18 to 25 kg. The target (cocoon-like) should be hit from a distance of 36.5 m by an arrow weighing 0.15 kg. The flags symbolize the fraternities of Rab, i.e. the counties and town of Rab, whereas the leading flag is the flag of the Republic of Croatia. The trumpets were designed in Italian workshops at special request while the canons were made in Croatian workshops.

Tastes of Rab

Enjoy a guided walk through the town before you will reach your bus to start a scenic drive to the Vilma bakery. The Vilma Bakery was founded in 1996 by Brna Vilma and family. Back then there was only one employee while today there are ten or more during the peak season. For the last ten years it is hard to find a tourist fair representing Rab or festivities where the famous Cake of Rab is not served. This unique delicacy comes in most cases from Vilma Bakery. The late Božo Sokolić was a legendary baker in Rab and Vilma's teacher after he revealed an old recipe he got from Benedictine Monastery nuns. It is the nuns who helped save the recipe intact and available for generations to come. The cake originated in Venice and was immediately accepted on the island of Rab as it was allegedly rich with almonds back in the time. See the production process and enjoy the cake before the adventure continues to Natura Rab. Natura Rav production is a family-run business. They see their prospects in mobile ecological bee-keeping on the southern part of Rab island in the village of Barbat and on the sea-facing slopes of the mountain Kapela and the nature park Velebit. The farming house, with its space and technology, integrates the process of gathering, enriching and packing honey and other agricultural produce. Enjoy a visit to the factory and taste the Bio products before the adventure continues to the Juresa winery. Jureša family vineyard and winery are located near the famous beach Pudarica on the Island of Rab near Barbat. Is there a better way to get to know the soul of locals than to try the fruits of labor of their hands; premium red wine! ''Plavac Mali'' and ''Merlot'' are the two most famous wine varieties in the vineyard. Jureša family is also famous for its restaurants ''Leut'' which is located by the beach in Barbat. Restaurant ''Leut'' is widely known for the preparation of food with spices and vegetables grown in an organic way (vegetables and fruits are grown in the vineyard). Enjoy in wine tasting before returning back to the old town and the yacht.

Sibenik

Krka National Park & Waterfalls

A short drive north of Sibenik takes us to the Krka National Park. The park encloses an area of 42 square miles along the Krka River. The area has numerous travertine waterfalls and cascades along the river which falls a total of 800 feet from its start in the Dinaric Mountains. Upon arrival at the Park we head for the last set of falls before the river meets the sea. The Skradinski Buk Falls form a spectacular multi-level cascade over travertine cliffs. They are 150 feet tall and are segmented in 17 greater or smaller stages interspersed with a series of miniature azure lakes. The Krka river comes in contact with sea water in this area. Bring your bathing suit so that you can take a dip just below the falls. Krka is rich in flora and fauna with well over 200 bird species living here, making it one of the most valuable ornithological areas in Europe. This unique area has been kept in its original state. After a guided walking tour you will have some time to explore the Park on your own before boarding bus for the return drive back to Å ibenik.

Town of Zadar and Liquor Tasting

The Zadar area was already settled in the Neolithic period, and in the 9th c. B.C. the peninsula was occupied by an Illyrian people, the Liburni. The town is first referred to in Greek sources of the 4th c. B.C. under the name of Idissa and already in the 1st c. B.C. it was taken by the Romans who called it Jadera. Your SeaDream Land Adventure begins from the pier and soon you will find yourself in the heart of this magnificent Old Town. Your walking adventure includes a visit to the Cathedral of St. Anastasia, the finest example of Romanesque architecture in Zadar and which has a notable W front of 1324. It is dedicated to St. Anastasia, whose stone sarcophagus is in the apse to the left of the high altar. Further on your way you will pass close to the Church of St. Donatus which is believed to have been built by Bishop Donatus on Roman foundations at the beginning of the 9th century. This is a most monumental church on the East side of the Adriatic, it is circular in plan, with three naves. To the eastern of the Forum you come to the 16th c. St Mary Church with a Romanesque bell-tower built at the beginning of the 12th c. by the Hungarian – Croatian King Koloman. On the upper floor of the convent, open to the public are rooms containing a collection of goldsmith´s work, relics and other valuable items. Your Land Adventure will end with a Wine, Cheese and Marascino Liqueur Tasting at Arsenal Tavern situated in the Old Town of Zadar at the vicinity of the pier area. Liqueur production in Zadar is almost 400 years old. The most known liqueur is Maraschino a bittersweet, clear liqueur flavored with Marasca cherries, which are grown in Dalmatia, Croatia, mostly around the city of Zadar. The liqueur's distinctive flavor comes from the Marasca cherries, and the crushed cherry pits lend an almond-like flavor to Maraschino. Honey is also part of the ancient recipe. The distillate is allowed to mature for two years in Finnish ash wood vats (because this wood does not lend its color to the liqueur even after many years of maturing), and is then diluted and sugared. It is typically bottled in a straw-coated bottle. The recipe for this liqueur was created by the apothecaries of the Dominican monastery at Zara, now Zadar, in Dalmatia, at the beginning of the 16th century, it was known under the name of Rosolj (Rožolj, Rosolio), which came from the word "ros solis"- "the sun dew". In the 18th century this liqueur was named Maraschino, as it was produced from the essence of ripe fruits of the cherry marasca, as well as from the leaves of its sprigs. In the agrarian regions of Dalmatia, Rosolj survived as the name of a traditional home made liqueur made from marasca cherries. At the beginning, this noble liqueur of delicate taste to which medicinal effects were also attributed, was available only to the privileged. With the appearance of the first manufacturing distillers at Zara in the 17th century (Rota, Mola and Calcengio), the secret of Rosolj (Maraschino) taste could be spread. In 18th century when the industrial production of this liqueur began, Maraschino set out from Zara and "sailed" into ever more important European ports and major cities. Soon it was accepted and favored by all European courts (Viennese, Berlin, the English court, the Bavarian, Italian, Belgium, and Danish courts) and later on Maraschino spread to America, Canada, Australia, South America and to South Africa. Maraschino was also admired by one of the biggest conquerors of the 19th century, Napoleon Bonaparte, who specially enjoyed it after dinner or supper. The French kings, Louis XVIII, Charles X and Louis Philippe as well as the Czar of Russia Nicholas I admired Maraschino too. The British king George IV sent to Zadar a naval fleet to collect a hundred Maraschino cases for the Royal court at London and for the governors of Malta and Corfu. In 1871 on the request of the English queen Victoria, Maraschino was loaded on the English ships at Zadar port. In 1887, namely on September 26th, on his way through Zadar, the Prince of Wales who later become the king George V, personally visited Zadar liqueur factory and on that occasion ordered a considerable quantity of this specialty. In 1999, Croatian National Tourist Office declared MARASCHINO on the list of authentic Croatian Souvenirs.

Romantic Gondola Evening Serenade

Since Venice began there have always been gondoliers. By the 11th century most were in private service with patrician families. There were about 10,000 gondoliers in Venice in the 16th century, and today there are fewer than 400. Great skill is required to steer a boat through the narrow canals of Venice. Each gondola is 36 feet long, 4 feet wide and weighs 1,100 pounds. A gondolier serves a 10-year apprenticeship under a padrone before getting his own permit. A licensee must be native-born, and, since new licenses are not issued, must wait until a colleague gives up a license before getting his own. Their union offers free courses in foreign languages, art history and the history of Venice, but the gondoliers are not given singing lessons - every Italian seems to have a natural talent for song. Join us for a romantic tour through the canals of Venice. Riding four per gondola, you will traverse the smaller, less trafficked canals, enjoying the soft lights and balconied waterfront homes, and be serenaded as you glide along.
